An old word for little characters
Popelote sounds soft. And it means exactly what we make.
popelote
n. · Middle English
“Little doll”. A word used by Chaucer in the 14th century, in The Canterbury Tales.
Why this name
We came across this word almost by chance. In Chaucer, a popelote is a little doll. And a little crocheted doll is an amigurumi.
We loved that a word more than six centuries old fits a hobby that's coming back today. We kept it lowercase, because it feels softer.
The kits we give up on
Maybe you know the scene. A cheap kit, bought one evening when you wanted a break from screens. You open the box. The instructions are tiny, full of abbreviations. The yarn slips and splits. By the third row, you're lost.
And you tell yourself it's not for you.
It wasn't you. It was the kit.
That's how Popelote was born. We wanted kits for people who've never held a hook, with no jargon and no missing parts.
- A step-by-step video, so you see every move instead of guessing it.
- Simple models, chosen so a first try becomes a real little character.
- Everything in the box, down to the needle and markers.
- A truly beginner level, jargon-free, made for people starting from zero.
Your first amigurumi, even if you've never held a hook.
That's our promise. You'll get there. Promise.
